It's only certain documents that exhibit this problem, including those I
mentioned in my original post. Other bookmarks and found documents open
correctly. (But see below.)

Will do, as soon as I've experimented a little more.

I don't know how to include it, because I don't think it's really a
document. I think it's an artifact of Xcode's display mechanisms. For
example, I was reading one document just now in the Xcode documentation
window's text pane, then for no good reason I clicked on the reference to it
in the search results pane. The document promptly disappeared from the
document text pane and was replaced by "921". Now, when I click down and up
on that pane, I see the full text of the document flash briefly, then
disappear and be replaced by "921". The brief glimpse of the full text
appears on the key up event, not the key down event.
So I know the full document is in fact on my disk and can be read by Xcode
(and Safari). I therefore surmise that the "921" is coming from some display
mechanism that isn't working right.
When I Control click on the text pane and choose Open Page in Browser, the
full text of the document appears in Safari, and yes I can see its file://
path. If instead I choose Open Page in New Window, I get a new Xcode window
with the correct title, but the content of the window is "921". -- And now
ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS generate a "921" pane, event bookmarks that were still
working correctly a few minutes ago.
I just tried quitting Xcode on the second computer, trashing the
com.apple.Xcode.plist preferences file, and relaunching Xcode. No
satisfaction. The bookmarks are still there, and some of them still produce
the "921" view.
