Xcode fails to build & go on a template project

I've created a new, template, project and hit build & go.... and nothing. It just hangs with a "compiling" message in the status bar. Hitting Stop stops it but that's all. No errors or warnings it just doesn't build & go.

I'm new to Xcode so I could be making a basic error (I installed Xcode using all the default options). Help?
