FWIW, now that I've got the download I am experiencing the same
problem. I look in the Xcode About box and see:
Xcode IDE: 921.0
Xcode Core: 921.0

Philip,
I suppose you know it but you should have at least 10% of disc space
free on your startup drive at any time. OS X becomes very sluggish
when running out of disc space.
