Try highlighting the setting in the target info window, and hit the
backspace key.

I think that does not always work, for example if there's a checkbox in there.


Try this instead:

1.  Highlight the setting.
2.  Click the gear in the bottom left.
3.  Click "Delete Definition at this Level".

(Also, for cleaner build settings, it's worth looking into .xcconfig files)

I haven't tried that yet, but based on my limited mis-experience with Build Settings, it may be good advice.
