Documentation failing to update

  • Subject: Documentation failing to update
  • From: Dominic Mitchell <email@hidden>

I've got a small problem with Xcode 3: When I go into the help, and do "update" (on any docset), I get a dialog box that says "Failed to download documentation package for Core Reference Library.  no permissions to read file".  But I have no idea which file it's failing to read.  So I'm stuck with v200 of the docs, and I can't install new ones.

I've checked the logs on my web proxy, and the atom feed is being downloaded successfully.

The permissions on the documentation itself appears to be correct:

/Developer/Documentation/DocSets:
total 0
drwxrwxr-x   5 _devdocs  _devdocs  170 11 Nov 18:16 ./
drwxrwxr-x  14 root      admin     476  9 Mar 21:09 ../
drwxrwxr-x   3 _devdocs  _devdocs  102  1 Sep  2007 com.apple.ADC_Reference_Library.CoreReference.docset/
drwxrwxr-x   3 _devdocs  _devdocs  102  7 Sep  2007 com.apple.ADC_Reference_Library.DeveloperTools.docset/
drwxrwxr-x   3 _devdocs  _devdocs  102 13 Aug  2007 com.apple.ADC_Reference_Library.WebObjectsReference.docset/

/Library/Developer/Shared/Documentation/DocSets:
total 0
drwxr-xr-x  2 _devdocs  _devdocs   68 19 Aug  2007 ./
drwxr-xr-x  3 root      admin     102 19 Aug  2007 ../

I've had a quick look through the archives, but I've no idea what's going on I'm afraid.  Does anybody have any clues as to why the update might be failing?

Incidentally, this is happening on both my old iMac G5 (upgraded to Leopard) and my macbook (purchased with Leopard).

Thanks,
-Dom
