Xcode 3.1 and iPhone as test device?

Hello everyone I'm new to the list.

I'm looking for information in regards to Xcode 3.1 and using an iPhone as a test device (Aspen 1.2?). I am interested in both first hand experience and also can someone point me in the direction of documentation on this issue. My concern mostly is, what happens to a device that is designated as a test device? Does this device return to normal operation when not being used for testing or is it now useless for anything but testing. Are there any negatives to using your regular phone as a test device?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
