Up through 10.3 I found every release of Mac OS X to be noticeably faster than the previous release on my PowerBook G4. I can't say how 10.4 would compare because I left the PowerBook at 10.3 as a testing machine and started running 10.4 when I got a MacBook Pro. Point is, I wouldn't assume 10.4 or 10.5 is any slower than 10.3. Might even be faster.


I do hope this isn't your main system, though. ;-)
