Keary,

What you've said seems to explain what looks like inconsistent occurrences of the problem.
Thanks very much for the suggested work-around.

Sorry not to have a work-around; if anyone knows how to deal with the problem
at least on a temporary basis, I'd appreciate hearing from them.

I hadn't followed this thread, but if you are experiencing the same problems
that I have, the issue, as I guess, is that the errors are generated from
files that are either not "open" or in some way fully recognized by Xcode.
The workaround I usually employ is to click on each file name in the search
results before attempting the replace. This only has to be done once per
applicable file as long as the project is open. Files that have been
displayed in the internal editor will not need to be clicked on. If the
search results aren't too many, I may go ahead and replace and just hit
enter to go through all the error dialogs (there will be one per non-"open"
file). Then I hit find again, and I know all that were found are the ones
not "open". Click 'em and they're done.

Lately, whenever I do a project-wide search and replace, I get the Internal
Error message shown below in an
Xcode 3.0 project that has been been under development for quite some time
without this problem appearing.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I have been using BBEdit, though not
exclusively, and even when I set the
default editor back to Xcode's internal editor and quit BBEdit, the problem
persists. Sure hope someone
can give me some idea why this problem has cropped up and what I can do to
eliminate it.
