Repeating Recent Searches

In the Find dialog there's a popup list to show recent searches. This
list gets rather long and on my system it doesn't get sorted
chronologically when I repeat searches. For example, if I search for
a term, then 50 searches later I repeat that search the string remains
near the bottom of the list. If I want to repeat that search soon
thereafter I can't find it in the list because its way down near the
bottom when I would expect it to be near the top of the list.
How do I get this list to sort with recent searches closer to the
top? That seems to be the entire purpose of the list but I can't make
it work.
