But my main question is I where in XCode 3.0 do I "break on auto_refcount_underflow_error to debug." ?

Open the Breakpoints window (opt-cmd-B). At the bottom of the listing will be a line with a blue cube in it, inviting you to double-click in it. Do so, and type auto_refcount_underflow_error into the resulting editing area. The debugger should now break execution whenever control reaches that function.
