Is there a known workaround to the GUI debugger not showing the values of array and dictionary elements?

In the debugger console you can normally print out any variable that's in scope. GDB has the ability to format variables similar to a printf output. This is my usual workaround when the debugger doesn't display things the way I want.

As there will always be data structures that the debugger doesn't display in the way you like old time command line debugger users would write functions to print out their complicated data structures. It's possible to call a function in your code from the GDB command line that prints things out the way you like.
