File extension ".nib"

I just upgraded to OS X Version 10.5.5, and installed Xcode Version 3.1.1.

I created a project from Hillegass' "Cocoa Programming for MAC OS X".  The project builds and runs correctly, however the file MainMenu.nib appears as MainMenu.xib.

Does anybody have any thoughts or comments?
