XCode 3 auto-indent

Auto-indent has always worked perfectly for me in XCode, until XCode 3.

With XCode 3 it doesn't work at all. I get no auto-intent at all. I have
to hit tabs manually on every line to indent from the left margin. If the
code is intended 5 tabs, then I have to hit tab 5 times on every line.

I take it from the apparent silence (and my failures to google anything
useful) that somehow other people are not having this problem?

I'm currently using version 3.1.1.

Turning on Syntax-Aware Intenting (which was on once and did terrible things
for my use) does not appear to affect this.

There is also the problem that Returns get eaten until you type the next
character, and related logic that interferes with basic typing. Very often
I have to add extra lines and then remove them to get what I need.

Thanks for any suggestions.
