Minimal install to repair missing kernel extension

At the beginning of our application we check for a potentially displaced kernel extension.

I would like to build a tiny package to accomplish this with a couple of minimal dialogs - intro, privilege elevation, do the deed, closing dialog. PackageMaker does a fairly complete number, but it still is "wordy". Are there other tools or ways to use PackageMaker from the command lines that make it simpler.

I'd like to avoid doing a cocoa app, but a shell prompt is also not good for customers...
