multiple edit windows?

Xcoders,

Yesterday I _believe_ I was able to open an edit window for any file I double clicked on in the project window.

Now, today, I can not seem to have more than one edit window besides the project window. When I double-click a file it opens in a separate edit window, good. Then double-click a second file, it opens in the first files' edit window, not a separate window, bad.

Searching Xcode prefs did not reveal any control for this.

How do I get Xcode to open an edit window for each file I double click in the project window?
