Loading dylib that is not in /usr/local/lib/

| I am building a dylib that I need to keep installed in the application bundle that is using it.
When I launch the application, I get the run time error:
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/<name of lib>.dylib Referenced from: /Users/<path to application> Reason: image not found
How do I convince the application to look for the dylib in :<application>/Contents/Resources/
BTY, the solution also has to work on 10.4.x.
