It does not need to remain a DLL on Macintosh.
Since so much effort is needed in any case, and to avoid creating a
mess (noting ygor's and other expert responses this morning - many
thanks for the support) we are pausing to take a look at what form is
best for the Macintosh implementation to support future applications
rather than the quickest port.
Also have given up trying to replicate with differences... instead,
the tactic is to "originate with guidance". Feels like both a better
fit, and a benefit. :-)

It is basically a DLL
so you'll probably want to turn it into a dylib
