Hi all!
I've been distributing a build of libpng, following the directions at:
This gives a functional result, but I noticed when users of the library drop into gdb, as gdb is loading symbols they get a long series of messages of the form: warning: Could not find object file "/Users/ejt/todo/packages/libpng-1.2.29/.libs/libpng12_la-png.o" - no debug information available for "png.c". …one for each file in the library. Obviously, I don't see this on my machine where it can access the debugging symbols, but fails on theirs where my hard drive and its intermediate build files is unavailable.
So what is the right thing to do? I suppose I could strip the library, but I'd be just as happy to leave the symbols intact if possible. I see it produces a .dSYM for each architecture, but I don't know how to merge those into a "universal" .dSYM file. Alternatively, maybe I can change the debugging symbol format so it's embedded in the .dylib and merged alongside with the code into the universal binary...?
Thanks, -Ethan
