First of all wrong list.. This is more a cocoa question but even that list will not be the best place to post. There is a forums for developer for iphone. Sign up for the certificate program. You will need it anyway later to publish or use that app on your phone

Now may I suggest:
1) look at the example in the SDK
2) Buy the cheap screencast on making an iphone app from pragmatic programmers (very good one to start quickly )
3) buy the pdf or/and book from them to learn to make an iphone app or look up amazon for a good book.
4) look at the book on Cocoa programming from Aaron Hillegass (although mostly for cocoa in general, it might help understanding some of the concept)


As for your issue, you need to handle keyboard event and release the keyboard when you are leaving the textfield...
