Thanks -- the old font was also size 10, where the new one is 11.
You wouldn't think that would make much difference, but on my system
at least it means the change from fuzzy fonts to non-fuzzy fonts.
It's a huge difference. I might give the new settings a try, since
that is obviously what they are recommending, but today for me the
fuzzy-style is harder on the eyes.
It's actually worse than that. The new default (11 point Menlo) is
wider than 10 point Monaco, though the characters are [seemingly]
smaller. Not all that surprising, but 10 point Menlo is even smaller
but still wider than 10 point Monaco. Going in the other direction, 12
point Menlo is only very slightly wider than 11 point Menlo, but the
characters are much bigger and very readable -- but very cramped
because of their widths.
Width is an issue for me because I'm pressed for screen real estate. I
really don't have room to make my windows wider and still keep them
side by side.
I've tried several times in the last few days to like Menlo (and I'm
sure it's the unavoidable wave of the future) but I haven't succeeded.
Luckily, it's very easy to set the font back to Monaco 10, which may
not be an outstanding font but is at least what I'm used to looking at.
And I wish these kids at Apple would get off my lawn, too ...
