First I have to do a wrong search; only then
does the search options bar appear, so that I can fix the search
options, so
that I can do a correct search.
I agree this is a problem with the current approach. When we first
adopted the search scope UI used by Mail in Leopard, I was passionate
about making sure that the search options were always visible to avoid
this problem.
In Snow Leopard our overriding goal was to make content king and to
get all the UI we possibly could out of the way; changing the search
scope bar to work like it does in apps like Mail was one of the
compromises we made in that direction. For our next major release
we'll be looking at all this again.
When I choose Help >
Developer Documentation, how about opening to the page I was last
looking
at?
It will show you the last thing you were looking at in that session.
Remembering the last item viewed between sessions is a good idea.

You can ensure this doesn't happen by putting some search term in the
search field to start a search, then using the popup list of doc sets
to turn off the iPhone doc set.

I request that the search options bar always be present.
Also it would be nice if I didn't always have to pass through the
annoying
Xcode Quick Start "front page". I never use *anything* on this page;
I never
want to see it again. It's ugly and it's just in my way, one more
thing to
wait for on my way to going where I really want to go. When I choose
