What are the differences between GCC 4.0 and GCC System Version (4.0)?
(As part of Project Settings->Compiler.)

The first configures your project to compile using GCC 4.0 specifically, regardless of what the system default happens to be. The second configures it to use whatever the build machine's default is; the version in parenthesis tells you that the current default is 4.0.
