I think you might need to provide us with additional information.
- what version of Xcode - what layout (All-in-One, Default, Condensed) - on what exactly you're single-clicking and what you end up seeing instead of the file in the main editor pane
The typical reason for this is that the Toggle Embedded Editor toolbar button got clicked and the editor pane is closed. Click this:
or choose View > Zoom Editor In (command-shift-E, which you might have hit inadvertently).
