I worked on this a while back (you should be able to find my messages to the list about my progress in the archive). I never got it to work with projects that used precompiled headers. I never tracked down exactly why and it involved moving gcc and friends around in /usr/bin-- which is more than a little dubious.

What I did included some patches to get ccache to accept more options.

You should file a bug report with apple at <http:// bugreport.apple.com> asking for ccache integration. My own bug was <rdar://problem/4590714 > which was marked as a duplicate of <rdar://problem/4320874>. The more reports they get of people wanting a feature, the more Apple knows where to focus their efforts...or so they say.
