If AppleScript won't fill your need, Python is specifically meant to be embedible as an application scripting language.

Sorry. Should have explained it better.

The scripting language will manipulate data (like "add 5 to Intelligence_Rating") which has knock-on effects similar to a spread sheet (change a cell, lots of other cells change), not the application itself.
(It is not a spread sheet though).
Thanks for help anyway. Probably check Flex and Bison.
