As a long time Mac user, I have the opposite problem. I find the MDI frame nature of tools like Eclipse to be incredibly confining. All the sliding panels are disconcerting and they seem to be forever getting in the way of what I'm interested in focusing on. I usually work in the default layout and I really hate the "grouped" window option (in fact, I wish there was a way to ask XCode to NEVER bring up the embedded editor in the project window.

Ugh... I went back and read this paragraph and it made no darn sense :-) Let's try this again, beginning with the second sentence:

In XCode I usually work in the "Default" layout. I like separate windows and I'm annoyed by the the "grouped" window option which seems to toggle itself on on occasion for no clear reason. (I usually toggle this option from the rightmost toolbar button of an editor window, but if you've customized your toolbars it may be somewhere else).

And in spite of having to edit this paragraph, I still wish there was a way to ask XCode to NEVER bring up the embedded editor in the project details.

Scott
