I am using Xcode to manage a project that is using an external build

Unfortunately, since Xcode is unaware of this path, it does not index
header files that I refer to in arrow brackets <>. How do I tell
Xcode that my project should look in extra directories when searching
for symbols to autocomplete?

I don't believe that's possible now. The index is fairly closely tied to the native build system.

Please file a bug with a sample project that demonstrates what you want.

Thanks,
