Fix and Continue - does it work?

I am having severe problems getting Fix and Continue to
work - I see a variety of strange error messages - and I just wanted to ask if
anyone is actually using it. I have tried all the build settings I
can think of and it seems to me that it is just plain broke so I don't to expend
a lot of energy on it if this is indeed the case. Which is a shame as it
can save a lot of time.
I am using XCode 3.1.2.
