I use Perforce (http://www.perforce.com/index.html).  A 2-user version is free and the standalone visual client (P4V) is really easy to use (as is Xcode's integration with it) .

Yes I know, I set up an SVN in no-time while it took me 3 hours to setup correctly Git . The problem with git+dreamhost is that... the webdav howto does not work and the ssh way works nicely but it means that I will have to give access to my $HOME to another user with my user/pass which I dislike.

So I'm a bit undecided on what to do. I'm thinking, as you said, that right now SVN might be the best solution, after all we're still learning Obj+cocoa basics so... no rush on using git.
