You may want to keep in mind that even though .xib files are used in
the development phase, when you release your app you will release with
.nib files. The .xib files are just an XML-based version of the .nib
file used in development because they play better with versioning
software such as Subversion and Git. Also, keep in mind that it is
common for most developers to refer to the interface files as nibs
regardless of whether or not they are .xib or .nib simply due to the
history of the .nib file and the fact that nibs are the final delivery
vehicle for the interface. So, more than likely, the books you are
reading are up to date, but choose to purposely refer to the interface
files as nibs since that is the common lingo used when referring to IB
interface files.
