gdb/kernel crash: unable to read unknown load command 0x58

I get this error when I point the gdb to a kernel crash dump.  The dump is generated on the same box where I am running gdb.  This is a 64-bit kernel running with boot-args srv=1 debug=0xd44 _panicd_ip=<ip>, 10.6.2 10c540 and xcode 3.2.1.
# gdb -c <corefile>
This GDB was configured as "x86_64-apple-darwin".
unable to read unknown load command 0x58
:
unable to read unknown load command 0x58
Core file contained no thread-specific data
(gdb)
# uname -a
Darwin MGXserve1.snv-eng.local 10.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue Nov  3 10:35:19 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
Does anyone why I get this error, and how I can fix it?  Thanks in advance.
