When I tried to invoke AppleScript directly from Xcode's scripts menu a year or so ago, I gave up and concluded that it would not work for some reason.

Instead, I use one-line shell script which invokes the AppleScript.  If you want parameters, look at the Apple examples which get built-in variables such as %%%{PBXSelectionStart}%%%.  You could probably pass these in a Perl script to your AppleScript.

By the way, I echo (and believe have previously reported as bugs) your thoughts on lack of documentation on Xcode scripting.
