Didn't look at these samples, so I don't know what could have gone wrong.
I see multiple errors, not certain how trivial this would be to fix. Fortunately, you don't have to fix them at all – GLUT is already built into Mac OS X, you don't need to build the project at all, just add the pre-built framework.
These three all built for me on Xcode 3.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 with only a few warnings. I didn't try to run them however, so I don't know if there is anything else wrong. I hope, really really hope that GLUT will be updated without any geekish politics.
Feel free to file feedback on each of these samples stating that they don't compile or compile with warnings. The list of issues from Xcode would be helpful as well.
