I would really, really pretty please like to ask that future
changes to the Xcode tool chain (specifically, the assembler and
the linker) would be made with backwards compatibility in mind for
non-Apple compilers.
Xcode (including Xcode 3.2) does not have a public plug-in API or
support third-party compilers.
I apologise if I was unclear. With "Xcode tool chain" I was referring
to the command line utilities part of the Xcode distribution, in
particular the assembler and linker. None of my remarks or radars have
anything to do with changes in Xcode-the-IDE. We also don't have (nor
ever had) any plug-ins for Xcode, only some project templates.
