I assume that you're using something like a JPEG image for the
toolbar icon. JPEG doesn't support an alpha channel so the image is
solid color over its entire area. You should be using TIFF or PNG
since both image formats support an alpha channel.

My question is,
In Interface builder I am creating a toolbar with toolitems in it,
in my window
I have one toolitem so far, and it has white all around the image
is there any way to use a mask file and the image file so the mask
would get rid of the whitespace?
How would I go about doing that (if it is possible)
