XCode 3.2.2 distcc not distributing

  • Subject: XCode 3.2.2 distcc not distributing
  • From: Garvan Keeley <email@hidden>

3.2.2 it is not distributing correctly in our environment. The previous bugs we were seeing in 3.2.1 were fixed (no spontaneous 'bus errors'), but we are now getting distcc reporting that it can't distribute:

Warning: remote compilation of '<foo.cpp>' failed, retrying locally
distcc[2640] Warning: failed to distribute <snip> running locally instead

I then get 30 processes all trying to execute (a mix of distcc, distccd, gcc, and cc1plus processes) from local compilations, and the build crawls.

I just wanted to correct my previous heads-up to all who have posted about this, that it may not work for you to upgrade.

Luckily some of us here can boot to 10.5 to build. It is a difference of close to an hour vs. under 10 mins distributed.

Off to file the bug... _______________________________________________
