I don't think so, because I haven't seen any case where Xcode shows information about the progress within an individual build command.

Well, compiler build phases do show errors and warnings. One possible strategy would be to try to emulate these, like "echo Warning: 20% done".


Another strategy would be to open the build transscript slightly. At the time the task is in progress, you'll see this on the last line of that.
