Background applications with iOS 4.0

Apologies if this is directed at the wrong mailing list.

The new SDK supports background execution, moreover it appears to force this functionality. I wondered whether it is possible to still create applications that terminate entirely upon entering the background (as with iOS 3.x and earlier) and if so how this can be achieved.

Thanks in advance,

Dan
