How to debug SenTest-based unit tests?

I don't like having unit tests run as part of a project's build phase, but I'm working on a project that has them set up that way. It's using the built-in SenTestingKit.framework. Some of the unit tests are failing, and I want to, you know, debug them with GDB. But I can't figure out any way to do that, since obviously breakpoints and the Xcode debugger aren't available at build time.

Am I overlooking some obvious facility for doing this, or is there something convoluted I need to set up? (Near as I can tell, I'd need to create a different target with a custom executable that points to the RunUnitTests tool, and also sets up a number of environment variables to point to the test bundle I want to run.)
