What does "Pal. Label" in Toolbar Item Attributes Mean?

In Interface Builder 3.2.1, when inspecting a Toobar Item > Attributes, there is a text field labelled "Pal. Label". What does "Pal" abbreviate?

It is not explained in the documentation:

http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Toolbars/Articles/ToolbarInIB.html

Thank you,

Jerry Krinock
