I noticed this exact same thing. It also prevents all of my targets'
VALID_ARCHS from being respected (Xcode just builds all of the ARCHS.)

I had to play around with my build settings a bit to separate them.
Try Project > Edit Project Settings. Select "Current OS" for "Base SDK
for All Configurations." Once you have that set, stay far, far away
from the Active SDK bit of that god forsaken toolbar control.
