Here's another vote for CMake.

FYI, I made a screencast a year ago demonstrating the use of CMake in
a cross platform project (Linux, Windows, Mac) showing things you can
do with it. It doesn't get into code, just high-level 'what you can do
with it' type things. It can be found here:
