Another kind of Symbol not found error

I am getting a "Symbol not found" error but not, it seems, for any of the
many reasons documented in many places.

In my case (Cocoa app with Xcode 3.2.4), I am getting this error *in spite*
of the fact that the symbol shows up in Xcode with the cyan(?) color
reserved for known class variables, methods and functions, etc.

This symbol is for a pure C function that is successfully compiled in this
target with the proper header included, etc.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks.
