BTW, what is Xcode's Preprocess pop-up menu option?

Either right click on a file and select Preprocess, or select it from the Build menu. It gives you the output after preprocessing and would have helped you with this particular problem. It's also useful if you ever have to report compiler or Static Analyser bugs to Apple because you end up with a single file that you can send them.
