Trials and tribulations...
After reading all the negative feedback (as well as the good), I decided
to try installing 4. I initially tried to install on a non-boot able
drive. No joy. So for giggles I copied my entire Developer folder to G:
and deleted the original (my older Pro is running low on disk space, so
side-by-each installations is a no-go). Xcode 3 has no qualms running
over there. So, with the freed up space I installed 4 on my machine.
In the limited amount of time I've played with 4, I kind of like the
work-flow. Unfortunately, I build for a minimum of 10.5 and my project
won't even begin to compile. After changing the build setting to get rid
of x86 targets, I get this error: QuartzCore/CAOpenGLLayer.h: No such
file or directory (my project doesn't actively use OpenGl). I'm in a bit
of a time crunch so I don't have time to play around with this, but if
any of you have a quick hit thought or solution that would be cool.
If you're still reading and are curious why I would be trying this, I
was thinking the Clang? compiler would help me tighten up my code. Plus
the whole Interface Builder integration is really appealing. I spend a
lot of time moving between the two environments. Then at release time I
simply revert to Xcode 3.x for the final builds. Let me know if that's a
stupid approach.
