But that's not what I did. I named an relationship with a lower-case version of an Entity name. The relationship points to a File entity, so calling the relationship 'file' seemed reasonable and rational to me.

Same here. I don't recall ever reading such a warning in the docs or any of the core data books and tutorials I've read. I'll wait awhile to see if anyone else remembers seeing this, then file a bug report.
