Clean command fail

I'm trying to build an iPad App with xCode 4.1, and it appears that the Clean command does nothing. I've deleted a folder of resources, added a new one, cleaned several times, but the old ones continue to be referenced.

I've seen mention in an online discussion that the Clean command in 4.1 "doesn't do a thing." And it sure didn't seem to do anything; the response was suspiciously instantaneous, whereas on xCode 3 the clean process took some time. Does anyone know if this was fixed in 4.2? I'd love to avoid the possible hassles of updating.

If this were an OSX app I'd open the target bundle and manually remove the resources. But for iOS xCode seems to hide the location of the compiled app so effectively that I'm unable to track it down. If anyone has an idea of where to locate it on this Lion system, that would be helpful too.

Thanks, Jeff
