Is there any chances these non-working key equivalents are already assigned to other menu items? Command-F, for example, is set by default on the "Find…" menu item on the Edit menu, if you have the standard "Find" submenu. Command-space always used to be reserved by Mac OS, and it's the standard key equivalent to bring up Spotlight.
It doesn't work to have the same key equivalent in 2 menu items***, even if one of them is currently disabled.
*** Except in the special case of menu items marked as alternates of each other, and they need to be sequential in a single menu.
