I just did this install two days ago and it worked fine. I basically
installed Xcode 4.x in /Developer-Xcode4 in the same partition as
/Developer (where Xcode 3.2 was). I will note that when I checked
_all_ the install options, the Xcode 4.x install installed the Xcode 4
versions of the command line tools over top of the Xcode 3 ones. I
could have not checked that box to avoid that, but I didn't. This
meant that things like xcodebuild were now the Xcode 4 versions. The
old Xcode 3 commad line stuff was/is stoll available in places like
/Developer/usr/bin.
