Build Freezes on "Recording" Step

I've updated my projects to Xcode 4, and the first one I need to build is a dylib.  Hitting build freezes it on the step "recording".  First, what is this step, and why might it freeze?  I've let it run for 10 minutes and there's no feedback anywhere.  Not sure what's happening.

Also, is there anyway to edit the toolbar?  I'd like to move the clean option there.
